Ryan Kaye

Wildlife ACT Vulture Conservation Programme Manager

Like most South Africans, I grew up with a deep appreciation for nature, which led me to pursue studies in Biodiversity, Ecology and Conservation to an MSc level. My career thereafter has taken me across diverse landscapes– from Filipino backwaters to the African bush to corporate boadrooms where I have worked on a range of conservation and sustainability projects.

About

Ryan Kaye

My initial work in conservation saw me managing research and community projects, monitoring wildlife and developing sustainable operations in remote camps and reserves. This hands-on experience shaped my understanding of how we interact with our natural environment, the challenges involved and the importance of measuring inputs, outputs and impacts of initiatives effectively. Recognising the need for robust data management in sustainability, I transitioned into roles that focused on tracking and optimizing environmental performance. I have since worked with businesses across sectors and industries to enhance their sustainability strategies, ensuring long-term resilience through data-driven decision-making.

Now, I am returning to the bush to apply everything I have learnt in my previous roles to conduct on-the-ground, vulture conservation work with Wildlife ACT. I look forward to implementing sustainable conservation solutions that effectively address the complex challenges these iconic birds face, while considering the greater ecosystems they depend on and working with communities that share their landscapes. I’m incredibly excited to bring together my passion for nature, my experience in sustainability and my data-driven approach to make a meaningful impact in the field, alongside the rest of the pack!
