About

Gareth Robinson

Gareth grew up dreaming of working in the bush, just like his grandfather, and spent his childhood in the garden flipping rocks in search of creatures, a habit not far removed from what he does professionally today. Before settling into conservation, he worked across several different fields, gaining a broad and varied skill set. His career in conservation began in 2019, and he joined Wildlife ACT in 2021.

As Senior Field Technician, Gareth is based at Manyoni Private Game Reserve and works across reserves throughout KwaZulu-Natal. His work spans hands-on field operations with Wildlife ACT’s priority species, including collaring, tagging, dehorning, and monitoring, supporting field teams, volunteers, and donors wherever needed.

He is particularly involved in projects at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park and African Wild Dog work at Mpilo Game Reserve, while contributing across most of Wildlife ACT’s species programmes.

Outside of work, Gareth is always looking for adventure, adrenaline, good people, and a good time.

“Humans have a responsibility to protect natural spaces and wildlife, and I would happily dedicate my life to this, knowing I am trying to make as much of a difference as best I can.”
