Our Vision
Thriving Wildlife

Resilient Ecosystems

Empowered People

Driven by a vision of Thriving Wildlife, Resilient Ecosystems, and Empowered People, Wildlife ACT believes that conservation success depends on the interconnected recovery of biodiversity, the security of ecosystem integrity, and the active involvement of local communities.
Our work is grounded in science-led, field-based conservation that combines rigorous wildlife monitoring, real-time emergency response, species recovery support, and strategic human-wildlife coexistence initiatives.
Turning Conservation Strategy into Action
From the beginning, Wildlife ACT pioneered a model that combined professional wildlife monitoring, strategic partnerships, and sustainable funding mechanisms to deliver real conservation outcomes. By establishing long-term monitoring projects inside protected areas, the organisation provided critical data to inform management decisions, enhance anti-poaching efforts, and guide species recovery strategies and promote human-wildlife coexistence.
Over the years, Wildlife ACT expanded its focus to include not only the monitoring of key species such as African Wild Dogs, Black Rhinos, Cheetahs, and Vultures, but also active support for species translocations, reintroductions, and post-release monitoring. In 2010, Wildlife ACT became a founding partner of Project Rhino KZN, reinforcing its leadership role in rhino conservation and collective action against wildlife crime.
Community-based conservation has become another vital pillar of Wildlife ACT’s mission, with dedicated Community Conservation Program regularly engaging communities living near protected areas.
Today, Wildlife ACT operates across several of KwaZulu-Natal’s most important protected areas, the Southern Drakensberg and North Island in the Seychelles.
With a track record of over 17 years, Wildlife ACT remains committed to its founding vision.
Supported by conservation authorities, financial contributions, and a global network of volunteers and partners, Wildlife ACT continues to deliver measurable conservation impact through science-based wildlife monitoring, strategic species recovery efforts, and community-driven conservation initiatives.
Working in partnership with, and in support of, nature reserves, protected areas, and communities across key landscapes, we focus primarily on endangered and priority species conservation.
Meet Our People
At Wildlife ACT, we are a dedicated team of professional wildlife conservationists committed to safeguarding Africa’s endangered and priority species. Founded by Dr Simon Morgan, Chris Kelly, and Johan Maree, Wildlife ACT brings together more than 30 years of combined ecological and conservation expertise. Our founders' shared passion for real, science-driven conservation continues to shape every aspect of our work today.
Our team of highly skilled and knowledgeable wildlife monitors lead the day-to-day conservation activities across multiple reserves in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Many of our monitors come from research, field ecology, and professional guiding backgrounds, bringing critical skills and firsthand knowledge of Africa’s wildlife and ecosystems.
More than just expertise, our team shares a deep love for wild animals, adventure, and preserving South Africa’s unique biodiversity.
With boots on the ground every day, we work tirelessly to track, protect, and respond to the needs of endangered species, helping to secure a future where wildlife and wild spaces can thrive.
