Support the Seychelles
North Island in Seychelles is a critical nesting site for the Critically Endangered Hawksbill Turtle and the Endangered Green Turtle. These species return year after year to lay their eggs on the island’s pristine beaches, but their survival is threatened by habitat loss, invasive species, marine debris, and climate change.
The Noah’s Ark Conservation Project was launched in 1997 to reverse the island’s ecological decline. Once a degraded coconut plantation overrun by invasive rats, North Island has been restored into a thriving sanctuary through invasive species eradication, large-scale habitat rehabilitation, and targeted species recovery programmes. Today, it supports healthy turtle nesting beaches, over 250 Seychelles White-eyes, more than 100 Aldabra Giant Tortoises, and more than 40 hectares of restored native forest.
Wildlife ACT has partnered with North Island for over a decade, working alongside the island’s Environmental Team to monitor and protect nesting turtles, restore native vegetation, and safeguard the island’s unique biodiversity. This science-led, hands-on conservation effort ensures that North Island remains a safe haven for endangered species and a model for island ecosystem restoration.

Restoring and Protecting North Island’s Ecosystem
The Noah’s Ark Conservation Project is an award-winning initiative focused on restoring North Island’s native ecosystem and safeguarding endangered species. Guided by a comprehensive Conservation Management Plan, the Environmental Team has achieved major milestones, including the eradication of invasive species, reintroduction of endangered birds, rehabilitation of more than 40 hectares of native forest, and restoration of coastal dune systems.
These conservation gains create a balanced ecosystem that provides safe, suitable habitat for Hawksbill and Green Turtles to nest and hatch successfully.

How to Support:
You can help protect Hawksbill and Green Turtles by supporting the Noah’s Ark Conservation Project in two ways:
Join the North Island Conservation Programme
Become part of our conservation team in Seychelles. Participants work directly with the Environmental Team on projects such as:
- Turtle nesting surveys and hatchling releases
- Nest translocation and monitoring
- Invasive plant removal from nesting beaches
- Native plant propagation and coastal habitat restoration
Donate to our GlobalGiving Project
Your contribution will directly support turtle conservation and habitat restoration on North Island. Donations fund activities such as daily beach patrols, nest protection, habitat rehabilitation, and ecological monitoring.
