Laura is a Priority Species Monitor at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, focusing on the daily monitoring of African Wild Dogs, Cheetahs, and Lions. With a BTech in Nature Conservation and a varied career spanning marine conservation and hospitality, she brings a well-rounded perspective and steady dedication to protecting the park’s most threatened species.
Laura is from Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape and completed a BTech in Nature Conservation before beginning her career in marine conservation. She went on to spend time in the hospitality sector, before ultimately finding her way back to the bush through Wildlife ACT. She joined the organisation in 2025 as a Priority Species Monitor at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park.
Laura’s work involves the early-morning monitoring of priority species across Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, with a particular focus on African Wild Dogs, Cheetahs, and Lions, helping ensure these endangered species are protected and given the best chance to recover from the brink of extinction.
Outside of work, Laura enjoys hiking, reading, photography, and spending time with family and loved ones.
“I am fuelled by my love for the environment, and my strive to protect endangered species and help them to fight back from the verge of extinction.”
